Whisky Distillery Tour
Here at The Four Seasons Hotel in Perthshire we love a dram or two of whisky in the evening by the fire or sitting looking out over Loch Earn.
You visit Scotland and what do you do. You play golf, eat haggis and visit a Whisky Distillery. You may go monster hunting!
A visit to a whisky distillery is a must but with 126 licensed distilleries (Scotch Whisky Association – 2017) the question asks itself which does one visit?
We have a few local distilleries here in Perthshire,
In the nearby Crieff is the Glenturret – one of the malts that goes into the Famous Grouse blend and the oldest whisky distillery in Scotland, dating back to 1775
Then we have the Aberfeldy – founded by John Dewar and Sons Ltd and still the blend that goes into Dewar’s whisky, it creates a 12, an 18 and a 21-year-old malt.
The Edradour distillery is one of the smallest in Scotland and dates back to 1825, producing only 18 casks per week
Deanston has a long history dating back to the industrial revolution when it was a cotton mill and it is only since 1965 that it has started producing whisky. Made by hand without technology it also produces an organic whisky
Tullibardine was developed just after WWII and now operates under the “Terroirs Distillers” name. It produces an Aged Oak Edition Single malt and a Sherry Finish Malt
Strathearn is a new distillery and has taken the mantle of smallest distillery from Edradour.
You have a small sample here of what is on offer in Scotland and a whisky tour can vary from a 1-hour tour around your distillery of choice to a chauffeur-driven day visiting three or four with pit stops for lunch and possibly afternoon tea. At each, you will find the blenders happy to share their knowledge of how the grain, yeast, Highland water and oak slowly and deliberately alchemise into the amber-coloured water of life that we eventually pour into your glass.
With the above in mind, it is easy to add on an extra of a distillery tour to your visit to Loch Earn.
Equally, we can create a tour over two or three days and can price accordingly. Please just let us know if you wish transportation, how many distilleries you wish to visit and how many are in the group and to finish the day we can arrange dinner in the Meall Reamhar as part of the package
Ultimately a whisky tour is what will linger on the tastebuds and in the memory, like a powerful friendship, long after you’ve left us, and Scotland, behind…
